The Chablais Geopark is the 4th French Geopark

The Pays d’Évian Vallée d’Abondance is located at the heart of Chablais, a territory labeled UNESCO Global Geopark (since 2012). The Chablais UNESCO Global Geopark has 23 developed Geosites, including 7 in the Pays d’Évian Vallée d’Abondance. A remarkable geological and geographical richness which invites you to explore and reconnect to the history of the Earth.

WHAT IS A GEOPARK?

First and foremost, it is a vibrant home, brought to life by its inhabitants, visitors and local players, where the relationship between humans and nature is an essential component. A geopark includes a number of remarkable sites regarding their scientific interest, rarity, aesthetic appeal or their educational value. Their interest can also be archaeological, historical, or natural.It meets the desires and needs of a more caring, sustainable, and authentic tourism, motivated by a return to nature on unspoilt land.

As a mutli-diverse region including the lake, plains, and mountains, Chablais’ UNESCO Global Geopark offers unique diverse landscapes enabling you to change mood and activity throughout your stay.

Assisted excursions, guided tours to cultural sites and hiking itineraries, make up the geosites.

THE PANORAMIC VIEW FROM CHAMPEILLANT

In this panoramic view you will discover Évian’s natural mineral water source, the association’s missions to protect its impluvium and the history surrounding the Champeillant Chapel. You will enjoy the spectacular 360° view across the Jura Massif, Lake Geneva, Chablais and also the highest point in the Alps: the Mont Blanc.

THE COL DE BASSACHAUX

The Col de Bassachaux offers a beautiful 360° panoramic view, which extends from Abondance Valley, land of the smugglers, to the Aulps Valley. Here you will discover how the two valleys were moulded by the great glaciers, but also the origins of Lake Montriond, a mere few centuries ago.

THE CORNETTES DE BISE

The Bise pasturelands are a timeless place and shared between two municipalities. You will discover the pastoral activity, history of its phantom lake and of the water that enters here and comes out 4km further on. Development planned soon.
